Chocorua is an unincorporated village in the town of Tamworth NH, nestled among mountains and lakes of pristine beauty. Mt. Chocorua is a spectacular and dramatic mountain rich in history and recreational opportunities. With Lake Chocorua at the foot of the mountain range, this natural beauty creates one of the most scenic views in New England. The village is home to the Chocorua River Dam and Park, and boasts spectacular views of its namesake, Mt Chocorua, known as the Matterhorn of the White Mountains due to its triangular summit, it is one of the most-climbed and photographed mountain peaks in the world.
Chocorua Day Returned on July 26, 2025. On Saturday July 26th Chocorua Community Association's President Mary Phelps welcomed all back to the Runnells Hall lawn for Chocorua Day. 2025. John Gotjen was honored as Citizen of the Year, and music was provided by Peter Heimlich and Tatylor Whiteside. The Artworks art show drew a lot of interest inside the hall, and the Chocorua public library had their annual book sale and activities for kids in the library. Judy Ashe led additional programs for kids in the park.
Plein Air artists descended on Tamworth and Chocorua for the 5th Annual Wet Paint event. The Tamworth Visitors Council's was pleased to once again present Wet Paint Tamworth this past spring. We welcomed back a talented group of plein air artists to paint this beautiful area we are lucky enough to call home. This year it was held April 27th - 30th as a retreat.
During the 4 days there were opportunities to meet the artists and see their paintings come to life in their own unique styles. Paintings done during the retreat were on display for the public in The Hayford Barn at the Preserve from Sunday through Tuesday evening.
Wet Paint Tamworth culminated in a Reception and Sale in The Hayford Barn at The Preserve. Proceeds from the sale of paintings was donated to the Tamworth Farmers Market SNAP program, doubling SNAP recipient’s dollars spent at the market.

The Light the Night Bonfire returns to the Chocorua River Dam Park this year on Jan 18th, 2026 with a hot beverage open house at The Farmstand, the bonfire will be lit at 5:00pm and there will be an after-bonfire pot luck dinner at Runnels Hall at 6:00pm.

The Village of Chocorua, a part of Tamworth, is centered at the intersection of routes 113 and 16, along the Chocorua River, a few miles south of Mt Chocorua, often called "The Matterhorn of the White Mountains" because of its triangular, rocky summit.
